COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Norwalk community members raised over $22,000 through the Giving Fund to support nearly 60 families with needs including food, winter clothing and bills, leaving Family & Children's Agency just $720 short of funding all cases. The partnership with Hearst Connecticut Media connects neighbors with essential support.  The Hour

CULTURE NEWS

  • Musician Charlie Puth announced he will perform a concert at Mohegan Sun and sing the National Anthem at Super Bowl LX months before the show + ticket details are available for local fans.  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A WestEd report shows that Connecticut’s special education system met federal requirements but faces staffing shortages and delays that have affected complaint processes and service delivery. The education department is hiring legal help and planning to refine training and oversight to support over 94,000 students with disabilities.  The Hour
  • INTEMPO launched an artist-in-residence program on Jan. 5 that offers emerging young violinists a two-year residency with a $10,000 stipend, access to a historic violin — valued at up to $100K — and teaching and performance opportunities. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Government offices, schools, and post offices in CT will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, while banks and major retailers may choose to open. Residents should check local schedules for updated hours and modified services from UPS and FedEx.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • Norwalk Hospital opened its new Cohen Pediatric Emergency Center thanks to a $1.74 million gift from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. The center remodeled seven emergency rooms and added pediatric equipment and will operate 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily to provide specialized care for children.  The Hour
