  • Several Connecticut chefs and restaurants were named as James Beard Award semifinalists with nominations including Community Table's Bolivar Hilario (New Preston) and Mystic’s Port of Call amid a growing spotlight on local cuisine. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents, alumni and union representatives questioned the changes in the Silvermine Dual Language Program during Tuesday night's school board meeting, saying the program no longer follows its promised structure (50/50 model) while district leaders explained that flexible teaching methods are used to meet language goals.  Nancy On Norwalk

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut is bracing for a winter storm that will bring bitterly cold weather and several inches of snow from Sunday into Monday morning—Gov. Ned Lamont will activate the state’s severe cold weather protocol Friday at noon, offering shelter guidance for those in need.  Connecticut Public

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Connecticut Sun announced its 2026 schedule, including a Hartford game on July 2 featuring Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings and a return to Boston on Aug. 18. The season opens on May 8 at New York with playoffs later (details pending CBA).  The Hour
  • Connecticut Ice, the annual college hockey tournament, moves to Yale's Ingalls Rink this week. On Friday, Quinnipiac faces Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. and UConn meets Yale at 7:30 p.m.—both games will be broadcast live on SNY and ESPN Plus.  The Hour
  • The midseason report shows Connecticut high school girls basketball teams, including top-ranked Northwest Catholic and surprising Farmington, making significant strides ahead of the CIAC championships (soon at Mohegan Sun).   • UConn will host North Carolina on Nov. 7 as part of its 2026 football season. The game features Wesleyan graduate Bill Belichick, now leading the Tar Heels in their first visit to Connecticut.  The Hour
  • On Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, Fairfield Prep defeated No. 1 New Canaan 2-1 in Darien as Nico Dowd tied the score in the third period (the team later clinched a hard-fought win) in a game that showcased strong efforts from both sides.  The Hour
