COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At a recent public meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the plan for Manresa Wilds Northern Forest, a 28-acre green space with trails, seating, and a 40-space parking lot. It is set to open in spring 2027 once further permits and a community liaison are secured.  The Hour
  • The 211 hotline is celebrating 50 years as call volumes surged 300 percent since 2019 due to rising food, housing and mental health needs in Connecticut. Extra funding of $2.6 million has expanded staff to help reduce wait times.  Connecticut Public
  • Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl featured eight Connecticut dogs on Sunday, and many have since found new homes. Roly from Lucky Dog Refuge in Stamford is now Westley, and Team Fluff dogs from local shelters are enjoying life with their new adopters in the region.  The Hour

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bloomfield-based Cigna will lay off 2,000 employees by the end of this month, affecting less than 3% of its global workforce and only a small number in Connecticut. The company said the move is meant to drive efficiency and will include a transition package for those affected.  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State officials dispute a report on out-of-state special education placements — saying oversight lies with local planning teams rather than the state, while advocates defend the research and call for improved local services.  The Hour

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The EPA repealed its ‘endangerment finding’ — a key rule that forced regulation of greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles — leaving Connecticut at risk for worsening air and water pollution and more extreme weather. State officials, including Gov. Lamont, said legal action will be pursued.  Connecticut Public

SPORTS NEWS

  • Monster Jam returns to PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford from March 21 to March 22, offering two days of monster truck stunts and a pit party (where fans can meet drivers). Trucks like Grave Digger will perform jumps, flips and donuts as they compete for a spot in the World Finals.  The Hour
  • UConn women’s basketball travels to Marquette (Milwaukee) at 1 p.m. today. Freshman Blanca Quiñonez returns after missing five games with a shoulder injury and the Huskies could tie a historic win streak record if they win.  The Hour
  • Connecticut native Maxim Naumov completed his Olympic free skate on Friday after overcoming the loss of his parents. He fell twice while attempting a quadruple Salchow, earned a 137.71 score, and dedicated his routine to his late parents + his debut marks a milestone in his career.  The Hour
