BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tucci Lumber Bats in Norwalk was started by Pete Tucci, a local high school grad whose baseball career ended after an injury, and his company makes baseball bats used by over 100 major league players that rank as the fifth most used in MLB. The company has also expanded to produce helmets and other sporting goods + its bats are made using mostly maple or birch wood.  News 12 Connecticut

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested Sarah Smolak after her former landlord complained of damage and theft at 37 Cedar Crest Place in Norwalk — she faces charges of criminal damage, larceny, and two counts of animal cruelty after 24 dogs were seized from her Winchester home, with a bond set at $50,000 and a court hearing scheduled for April 14.  News 12 Connecticut

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nathan Hale Middle School will present Sound of Music: Youth Edition starting Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 5 at 1 and 7 p.m.—the show features 24 students and 29 crew members and is supported by a donation from the Jamie A. Hulley Arts Foundation.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • INTEMPO, an award-winning intercultural music education organization, will host its annual Cultural Crossover Concert on Saturday, April 5 at 7 p.m. at Norwalk Concert Hall—featuring over 100 young musicians from its Music School and the Norwalk Youth Symphony along with special guest Geo Suquillo, a celebrated Ecuadorian multi-instrumentalist, while CEO Lou Chen conducts the event with tickets priced from $12 to $50.  Nancy On Norwalk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norwalk’s Public Works Department maintains city infrastructure by handling road repairs, garbage and recycling pickups, stormwater systems, and park facilities. Chief of Operations Vanessa Valadares said the team is finalizing a tree master plan to boost the city canopy from 43% to 53% (and will start using automated trucks for garbage collection on July 1) while coordinating its five divisions for smoother operations.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Governor Ned Lamont announced on April 1 a $30 million plan called CT Home Funds to help families buy and fix homes by offering loans at low interest for repairs, forgivable loans for down payments and grants for building new affordable homes. A Hartford pilot will set aside $2 million to increase homeownership for Black and Brown residents — the program aims to address longstanding housing disparities.  Connecticut Public
