COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Norwalk Recreation and Parks will offer seven six week Play and Learn Beach Camps for children from prekindergarten to grade 9 from Monday, June 23 to Friday, Aug. 1—while an Ultimate Frisbee Camp for kids ages 8 to 13 will run for one week from June 16 to 20 at Cranbury Park. Registration opened on March 24 and is open until June 15—families can split payments weekly with fees of $242 for most camps and $172 for Tiny Tots while campers must bring their own lunch.  Nancy On Norwalk

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday, CT police started a statewide crackdown on texting while driving—undercover officers spot distracted drivers who may face $200 tickets for a first offense as part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month.  News 12 Connecticut
  • At Milford Superior Court in Norwalk, the jury in Jose Morales’ murder trial—focused on the fatal beating death of Christine Holloway at 6 ½ Myrtle Ave over five years ago—heard a 911 call from his phone recorded at 1:52 a.m. on December 1 that captured him saying 'Myrtle Avenue' three times before a female voice said 'Hang up,' which contradicts his claim that he had not seen her since November 29.  News 12 Connecticut

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk will reopen on June 4 at 12 p.m. after a two-year closure for major restorations that improved exhibition spaces and mechanical systems and revealed an 1867 cast-iron Beebe stove found in a servants’ dining hall—local officials and state partners supported the project.  Nancy On Norwalk

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Norwalk High will host the 39th Annual District-Wide College Fair on Wednesday, April 23 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at its campus on Calvin Murphy Drive, where over 100 colleges and universities (including UConn, Providence College, and SCSU plus military recruiters) will meet local students and parents; a shuttle bus (available from Andrews Field) will serve those who need it.  Nancy On Norwalk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norwalk officials will visit the 10 Norden Place site next Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to examine the proposed Auto Collective car club and storage facility—a project in a former industrial complex that plans a mix of climate-controlled storage and community events with no added flood risk, with a public hearing to be set soon.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Norwalk’s Fire Department will soon gain a refurbished 29-foot boat to replace its outdated vessel. The Common Council approved a $240,000 purchase—funded mainly by a federal grant and city capital budget—and the boat is expected to be ready by mid-May.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Norwalk Common Council President Barbara Smyth raised over $34K in her initial mayoral campaign filing with contributions from more than 149 local donors and an average donation of $187.65—she officially launched her bid for mayor earlier this year—and has received early endorsements from State Sen. HEALTH NEWS

  • Connecticut’s Office of Health Strategy approved a merger between Northwell Health and Nuvance Health, which operates hospitals in Norwalk, Danbury, Sharon, and New Milford—today the agency announced. Northwell will invest $1 billion over five years in capital projects like a new electronic medical record system—without making a direct purchase.  Nancy On Norwalk

  • Sunset Stroll

    The Sunset Stroll will be held at The Point at Norwalk Cove. We will have passed around appetizers, entrees, and a signature drink. We will have elected officials and program participants as speakers. We will also have scavenger hunt for the guests to learn about all of our amazing programs. There will be a silent choice auction and a live auction with amazing items.
