A Stamford woman (Toni Marie Gardella, 40, of Arrow Head Drive) was arrested in New Canaan after she crashed into a firetruck at 9:50 p.m. on April 11 while driving under the influence and fleeing the scene; she remains free on $300 bail and will appear in Norwalk Superior Court on April 25.

Connecticut police chiefs supported a plan to use GPS tracking darts instead of high-speed chases, but state lawmakers blocked the pilot program because it might violate the Fourth Amendment—raising concerns over privacy.

On April 18th, state Senate leaders unveiled a proposal to raise tax rates for high earners to generate over $420 million a year to offset expected federal cuts to core programs.

Senate President Pro Tem Martin M. Looney and Majority Leader Bob Duff plan to boost rates for incomes above $250,000 (single filers) and $500,000 (couples) if Congress extends the federal tax cuts.

State Sen. Bob Duff from Norwalk and Rep. Tammy Nuccio proposed a bill on April 18 that would stop insurance companies from raising premiums or canceling policies solely based on a homeowner's dog breed.

The bill is the fourth proposal of its kind (this is the fourth similar effort) and is set to be debated in the House (pending further legislative support).

On April 15th, the Norwalk Ordinance Committee advanced an ordinance to allow the city to install automated traffic cameras to enforce speed and red-light violations—amid sharp debates over privacy and data misuse.

Officials said a public hearing and awareness campaign will follow before any final installation takes place.

Four international students in Connecticut filed a lawsuit against the federal government after learning their F-1 student status was terminated, leaving them at risk for arrest, detention, and deportation.

They filed the suit in a federal court in Georgia last week and now await further arguments for a possible preliminary injunction.
