CULTURE NEWS

  • The Norwalk Arts and Cultural Commission is hosting Arts After Hours, a free event on April 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Oak Hill Mansion (25 France St behind St. Philip Church) featuring local artists and an art exhibition with complimentary refreshments.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Live Nation’s $30 Summer of Live promotion offers discounted tickets for concerts at select Connecticut venues including Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven and Wallingford locations. Early All Access sales began April 23 — T-Mobile starts on April 28 and general sales run from April 29 to May 5.  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students, educators, and local leaders gathered Wednesday at Kendall College and Career Academy to unveil an Earth Day mural created with recycled paint. The mural — designed by artist 5ivefingaz in partnership with PaintCare and Keep America Beautiful — highlights sustainability in art and education and will be installed on the school’s exterior wall.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Norwalk Public Schools announced that the BET vote to cap the budget increase at 4% will force $2.3 million in cuts (affecting school-level programs). The Board of Education meets tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall to review the revised budget.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Students from Ludlowe High School and Fairfield Warde High School are participating in the annual Senior Assassin games, and officials today warned them to avoid unsafe practices such as using realistic-looking weapons, playing while driving, or trespassing to keep community spaces secure + respectful.  News 12 Connecticut

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A report from the American Lung Association shows that Norwalk and nearby Fairfield County areas receive failing air quality grades because of high ozone days. The report found 7 of 8 Connecticut counties fall short due to pollution from New York City, while rain and wind help clear the air.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • Since COVID-19, Norwalk’s health department has added staff and new programs, and officials say in-person outreach plus clear, honest updates have built a 93% trust rate among residents.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Residents will be able to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications tomorrow, April 25, during the DEA's Take Back Day event, with drop-offs available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at several locations statewide.  Connecticut Public

SPORTS NEWS

  • UCLA teammates Gianna Kneepkens and Charlisse Leger-Walker report to training camp in Uncasville (bringing the same bond from college) as the Connecticut Sun prepares for its final season. Former Bruin Kennedy Burke joins them as a veteran leader for the team.  The Hour
  • Ferry service from Stamford to Citi Field will begin tomorrow for Mets games. The 75-minute ride costs $80 or $85 round-trip + optional ballgame tickets range from $140 to $334 and will operate for 24 games this season.  The Hour
  • UConn players, including local native Skyler Bell, are entering the NFL Draft this weekend in Pittsburgh, marking the first time in nearly a decade that consecutive selections have been produced as they aim to secure NFL roster spots.  The Hour
