- ➤ The fourth annual Norwalk Earth Day Festival will take place tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Norwalk Green where community organizers will offer live music, an Eco—Trashion show, environmental demonstrations, cleanups starting at 9:30 a.m., and speeches by Mayor Harry Rilling and David Pogue. - ➤ Christopher Adams, a 58-year-old Norwalk man, was sentenced to 22 months in prison and three years of supervised release in federal court in Hartford for trafficking cocaine—he pleaded guilty after resuming drug distribution following his bond release from state charges. The Hour
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Norwalk High School will host the Coast to Coast College Tour on Monday, April 28 at 7 p.m. where representatives from Princeton, USC, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern will explain the college admissions process (the program runs until 9 p.m.) to students in grades 9-11 and their families (registration is required). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Norwalk’s First District Water Department is moving ahead with a shovel-ready project to install a Granular Activated Carbon system at the Kellogg-Deering Wellfield to treat PFAS contamination in its supplemental water supply— it has secured state and federal funds including $959,752 from EPA grants supported by Congressman Jim Himes and will meet new PFAS limits by 2029. - ➤ The Norwalk Common Council adopted a new Tree Master Plan on April 22 to boost canopy coverage from 43 percent to 53 percent over 30 years by planting about 64,000 trees and protecting the urban forest—especially in underserved areas like South Norwalk and East Norwalk. The plan, based on a 2021 aerial study, is expected to help public health, manage stormwater and save the city roughly 3 million dollars each year. Nancy On Norwalk
- ➤ The ACLU Foundation of Connecticut filed a lawsuit in New Haven on April 24 — the complaint says the federal government wrongly ended the F-1 records of four international students in Connecticut, putting their visas at risk. Attorneys are asking the court for a temporary restraining order to restore the records while a related suit in Georgia continues. Connecticut Public
- ➤ The First District Water Department began its annual flushing program on April 22, affecting streets like Silvermine Ave and Old Mill Court in Norwalk. Residents with discolored water should run cold water through faucets for five to 10 minutes—if the water does not clear, they need to call the FDWD Customer Service Center at 1-203-847-7387. The Sunset Stroll will be held at The Point at Norwalk Cove. We will have passed around appetizers, entrees, and a signature drink. We will have elected officials and program participants as speakers. We will also have scavenger hunt for the guests to learn about all of our amazing programs. There will be a silent choice auction and a live auction with amazing items.
