COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Make-A-Wish Connecticut in Trumbull celebrated World Wish Day Tuesday as it marked the anniversary of its first granted wish and now awards 250 wishes a year to children with serious illnesses. The organization raised $600,000 last month at Jersey Mike's Make-A-Wish Day—staff rang a bell each time a wish was fulfilled.  News 12 Connecticut

CRIME NEWS

  • A Norwalk man, 45-year-old Ylli Shtopaku, was charged with murder after fatally beating his former mother-in-law, 70-year-old Lida Shape, with a baseball bat at the Ten Trumbull apartment complex on Monday—he remains in custody on a $3 million bond with police providing no motive.  News 12 Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials will resume erasing most old criminal records under Connecticut’s Clean Slate law this fall as they fix problems with outdated systems (DESPP spent $5.8 million in 2024 and will invest more funds through 2026). Critics remain cautious about the new timeline even though the plan could clear records for about 119,000 people.  Connecticut Public
  • The Department of Transportation presented its West Avenue Drainage Project to the Norwalk Traffic Authority and faced pushback from local officials over plans that would close multiple lanes for up to a month to install extra utilities — Mayor Rilling and others now want a revised plan that keeps more lanes open for traffic and emergency response. The project aims to prevent road flooding but has raised concerns about worsening backups and public safety.  Nancy On Norwalk

HEALTH NEWS

  • On April 29, a jury awarded nearly $23 million to the estate of Maura Gallagher, a 38-year-old New Canaan woman who died during a C-section at Stamford Hospital in May 2017 after doctors were found negligent in her care.
