  • Nik’s Place in East Norwalk plans to reopen this weekend at 86 Gregory Boulevard following a two-year closure. Owner Steve Kydes revamped the building and said the popular food stand continues to serve Greek gyros, souvlaki, burgers and signature Greek fries for longtime neighborhood customers.  The Hour

CULTURE NEWS

  • After a sold-out Bridgeport show, Foo Fighters perform today in Manhattan with in-person ticket sales starting at 10 a.m. (tickets cost $30 each, two per person) and will host another pop-up show in Sayreville on May 2.  The Hour

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Two Connecticut Lottery players marked Monday with wins when a Norwalk resident secured $50,000 from Lady Luck at Norwalk Convenience Mart and a New Britain resident won $100,000 from Cash 5 at Regal Package Store. The prizes combined for $150,000.  The Hour

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut's spring turkey hunting season began Apr. 29 and runs until May 30; hunters may bag up to five bearded birds between sunrise and sunset on public and approved private lands — a new law also advises fluorescent orange gear to avoid misidentification across 169 towns.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the state Senate unanimously approved a bill to help Connecticut's 79 dairy farms by supplementing $8 million in tax credits and creating a grant program aimed at easing high production costs; the legislation now moves to the House of Representatives.  The Hour

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local gardening experts say now is a great time to plant ornamental cherry trees, as the cooler spring weather promotes strong root growth + vibrant blossoms. SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn announced Nils Machowski, a standout perimeter shooter from Wofford, will join the men’s basketball team to boost guard play after Solo Ball postponed his season for wrist surgery, and he will help address the team’s 3-point shortage.  The Hour
  • UConn’s Tarris Reed and Alex Karaban are projected to be picked by the Knicks in the NBA draft two months from today — Reed’s standout NCAA Tournament performance moves him into the first round while Karaban is set at 31st overall.  The Hour
  • Olympic swimmer Rowdy Gaines visited Stewie the Duck Swim School in Norwalk in April, posing for photos with students and reinforcing support for the school, which opened in 2023 with his organization’s grant program. His visit celebrated a community effort offering free swim lessons across the region.  The Hour
  • High school baseball is at midseason—Norwalk’s team lost three straight games after a promising start, and state tournaments will begin June 1 with finals on June 12–13 at Palmer Field in Middletown.  The Hour
  • High school girls lacrosse teams posted standout performances last week as players reached career milestones and secured big wins. Teams are set to compete in key weekend games such as Barlow at St. Joseph Saturday at 10 a.m. + St. Anthony's at Wilton Saturday at noon.  The Hour
