COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Norwalk Veterans Memorial Committee will welcome Medal of Honor recipient Jim 'Doc' McCloughan (traveling from Michigan with his wife and two dogs) for a weekend of remembrance, with a special dinner scheduled for May 17 at 6:00 p.m. at the Norwalk Inn and his speaking role at the Veterans Memorial Ceremony on May 18 at 12:30 p.m. at the Shea-Magrath Memorial and Wall of Remembrance.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • St. Paul’s on the Green will host a public discussion on affordable housing at 60 East Ave in Norwalk on Sunday, May 4 from 12:30 to 2 p.m.—the event, organized by the church’s Justice Ministry with Open Communities Alliance, will feature State Sen. Bob Duff as he presents insights on pending legislative efforts.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Heritage Landscapes LLC and the Norwalk Historical Commission completed a five-year project at Mill Hill that added ADA ramps, a stone-step trail, and native plantings to connect historic sites (the Jailhouse, Barn and Meeting House). The project earned an Honorable Mention at the Connecticut Preservation Awards announced by Preservation Connecticut, and the awards ceremony is set for May 8 (at New Haven Country Club).  Nancy On Norwalk

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon on the third floor of a multifamily house at 30 Lexington Ave which left 22 people displaced, with over 40 firefighters on scene — investigators are searching the property as the Red Cross assists those affected and no injuries were reported.  News 12 Connecticut

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Shangri-La—controlling two-thirds of Norwalk’s cannabis market—is set to open a growing facility in Stratford and a manufacturing plant in Waterbury to cut prices by about 30 percent in early 2026, with an eighth-ounce that costs between $40 and $70 now expected to drop to roughly $28 to $49.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Adrian Hurtado, known for Taco Guy, will sign a lease on a 1,300 sq ft space at South Norwalk Train Station and aims to open his new quick-bite eatery Tacos 203 this summer if permits are approved. The eatery will serve New York style tacos and Mexican drinks—targeting busy commuters with an open-concept kitchen.  Nancy On Norwalk

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Norwalk official Ellen Wink, accused of killing her tenant and of a prior criminal lockout, will go on trial in the first week of June—her case now includes four other incidents that may explain her motive.  News 12 Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Avelo Airlines signed a long-term deal to operate ICE deportation flights starting May 12 and faced protests at its New Haven hub after the decision triggered strong reactions from local officials. State Attorney General William Tong demanded a review of the contract and warned lawmakers might revoke the airline’s tax breaks if the deal goes forward.  Connecticut Public

HEALTH NEWS

  • Norwalk will host its 4th Annual NorWALK for Mental Health Walk and Wellness Fair on Saturday, May 3rd from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Norwalk Green — community organizations, local officials and families will join health screenings, yoga, and a 1.5-mile accessible walk to honor Mental Health Awareness Month.  City of Norwalk

SPORTS NEWS

  • Norwalk High School’s coed bowling team won the State Bowling Championship in March after beating 23 teams at Bowlero Milford Lanes — school board Secretary Kara Nelson Baekey said the victory shows the team’s strong skill and teamwork.  Nancy On Norwalk

    The Sunset Stroll will be held at The Point at Norwalk Cove. We will have passed around appetizers, entrees, and a signature drink. We will have elected officials and program participants as speakers. We will also have scavenger hunt for the guests to learn about all of our amazing programs. There will be a silent choice auction and a live auction with amazing items.
