  • Union president Bill Louis said that about 2,500 Electric Boat workers will strike at midnight on May 18 if no deal with better pay, pension benefits, cost of living help and profit sharing is reached by 11:59 p.m. on May 17—300 union members cheered at a rally in Connecticut.  Connecticut Public

  • A Norwalk man accused of fatally beating his former mother-in-law with a baseball bat in Trumbull was ordered by a judge to avoid contact with the victim’s family — including his two sons — after he confessed to the attack, police said.  News 12 Connecticut

  • News 12's Mark Sudol is previewing a Kentucky Derby party in Norwalk hosted by BJ's Banc House and Greer Southern Table that is scheduled for today.  News 12 Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • House lawmakers passed HB 5004—a climate bill to reach net zero emissions by 2050—last Thursday after a three-hour debate, and it now heads to the Senate for review. The bill creates a Clean Economy Council to study clean energy plans and offer renewable energy incentives while easing opposition by removing some controversial language.  Connecticut Public
  • Dozens of protesters gathered on Thursday afternoon in Norwalk for a May Day demonstration organized by Good Trouble Norwalk, calling for labor rights and fair elections.   • On Friday, Hartford Healthcare opened the Fairfield Cancer Center with a new Ethos linear accelerator for radiation treatments through a partnership with Memorial Sloan Kettering—ensuring that cancer patients in Connecticut no longer have to travel to New York for specific care.  News 12 Connecticut
