CULTURE NEWS

  • The Norwalk Green will host the city’s first Black Wall Street Festival from noon to 5 p.m. May 30, organized by Eva Beau to celebrate Black entrepreneurs and honor local elders (27 Black-owned businesses and chef Jeff Esaw are set to participate).  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Norwalk schools announced graduation ceremonies for high schools and specialized programs with events on Friday, June 12, Tuesday, June 16, and Wednesday, June 17 at Brien McMahon and Total Mortgage Arena — middle school promotions are on Monday, June 15 ahead of the final school day on June 24.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut will hold its tax-free week from Sunday, Aug. 16 to Saturday, Aug. 22, where clothing items up to $300 and select school supplies like backpacks, lunch boxes, and art tools will be exempt from the 6.35% sales tax—giving families savings on back-to-school purchases.  The Hour
  • CT DOT will be repaving the center lanes of I-95 between exits 9 and 10 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly until Saturday to improve travel in Stamford and Darien, and local roads may see extra congestion (drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time).  News 12 Connecticut

SPORTS NEWS

  • Photos from Monday’s baseball game between Norwalk and Danbury capture key action in Danbury (featuring players like Norwalk’s Marcus Villafane and Jacob Fields). The images provide a clear look at local high school sports.  The Hour
  • UConn coach Geno Auriemma said on Monday, May 4 that he regrets his sideline altercation with Dawn Staley during the Final Four loss to South Carolina + he noted that his outburst stemmed from built-up frustration. Both coaches later resolved their differences privately.  The Hour
  • Fairfield Ludlowe debuted at No. 8 in the state high school baseball poll on May 4 while Staples returned on a seven-game win streak & Norwalk lost its ranking after four straight losses. Other schools, including Fairfield Prep and Trumbull, maintained top positions.  The Hour
