CULTURE NEWS

  • New Fairfield filmmaker Luchina Fisher won a $150K PitchBLACK award in late April for her documentary 'Hiding in Plain Sight', which will highlight Black-queer music history (she is the first filmmaker to earn the top prize twice).  The Hour
  • Greenwich native Christopher Abbott earned a Tony Award nomination on Tuesday for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for his role as Biff Loman in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, which runs at the Winter Garden Theatre until Aug. 9 + his nomination is his first nod for his stage work.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State DOT crews are repaving I-95’s center lanes between Exits 9 and 10 in Stamford and Darien overnight from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.—drivers should plan for delays. The work began earlier this week and may finish by Saturday if weather permits.  The Hour
  • Connecticut lawmakers approved a change allowing smaller lobsters from other regions to be sold starting July 2027; the move aims to lower seafood prices amid declining local catches, and Gov. Ned Lamont is expected to sign the bill + helping restaurants offer more affordable lobster rolls.  The Hour
  • Norwalk Inn CEO Maria DeVito says her family's donation to a church center inadvertently created a direct catering competitor and raised fairness questions in a residential zone. The Planning and Zoning Commission will review the church's permit change soon & local residents await clarity.  Nancy On Norwalk

  • Eateries across Connecticut are planning Mother's Day brunch and dinner specials featuring set menus such as carving stations and prix fixe selections. Washington Prime in Norwalk will offer a buffet with lam chops and prime rib + other local restaurants are updating menus for families.  The Hour

SPORTS NEWS

  • Both Yale & Fairfield women’s lacrosse teams have earned spots in the NCAA Tournament, with Yale scheduled to face Boston College at 4 p.m. at Stony Brook & Fairfield set to play Army at 6 p.m. at Johns Hopkins on Friday. Connecticut’s Darien player Kelly Holmes is among the group.  The Hour
  • After a tough Final Four loss to South Carolina on April 3 where she struggled with calf pain & frustration, UConn coach Geno Auriemma said star Sarah Strong will rest this summer with no extra basketball commitments so she can recover fully and prepare to lead next season.  The Hour
  • High school girls lacrosse teams achieved key scoring milestones last week, with Norwalk's team succumbing 19-0 on Thursday. The season builds with a Saturday showdown at Staples at noon — setting the stage for further conference contests.  The Hour
