COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Connecticut Foodshare will host its inaugural Taste of SoNo fundraising event on May 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the SoNo Collection in Norwalk. Local restaurants and businesses will join to fight food insecurity + the event will feature a silent auction and local speakers discussing rising need amid federal food aid cuts + proceeds will support the mobile pantry program.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Metsä Board Americas partnered with Westport-based nonprofit Homes with Hope to supply recyclable food containers for food pantries and meal programs in Fairfield County. The project began when the company donated paperboard that local manufacturer Kari-Out turned into 72,200 boxes — and further expansion with additional paper products is planned.  Nancy On Norwalk

  • Today, Connecticut celebrated the election of Pope Leo XIV, the first American-born pope, as Sacred Heart University professor Dr. Charles Gillespie and New Canaan resident Susan Engel expressed their excitement—experts say the new pope will continue Pope Francis’ legacy with a global perspective.  News 12 Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norwalk named retired Lt. Col. Howard W. Dixon as Grand Marshal for the Memorial Day Parade. The parade will start at 10 a.m. on May 26 at Veterans Park—Dixon served as a pilot for 23 years—while a C-130 flyover by the Connecticut Air National Guard is scheduled shortly after.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • On May 5, the Norwalk Charter Revision Commission approved updates to modernize the city charter — the changes include updated definitions for capital budgets, delegated CFO authority, mandatory regular meetings for city boards and commissions, and a required oath for appointees. The commission tabled further issues for future discussion such as defining the operating budget and the process for appointing the library director.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • City officials, business leaders and mayoral hopefuls gathered Wednesday night at Shore and Country Club for the Greater Norwalk Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Dinner, where entrepreneur Austin McChord outlined plans to convert Manresa Island into a public waterfront park+ Chamber President Shannon O’Toole Giandurco reviewed the past year's successes and previewed upcoming events.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Darlene Young launched her campaign for Norwalk mayor on Thursday, citing 30 years of public service as a Common Council member and in community roles. She said she will expand youth workforce development, improve parks and neighborhood quality, and boost housing affordability—while working to keep the city’s bond rating stable through strategic partnerships.  Nancy On Norwalk
