COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On May 8, more than 300 residents attended a feedback meeting to discuss plans to transform the decaying Manresa Island power plant into a park, using red and green stickers to show support for nature and water activities as well as concerns over traffic and parking—organizers will reveal a detailed design at a July 13 meeting before the plan goes to zoning review and environmental permitting.  Nancy On Norwalk

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alex Cross, Norwalk’s Business Development Manager, was named a 2025 Fairfield County 40 Under Forty award winner today — recognized for his leadership in business development and community engagement — and will attend the awards ceremony on June 12 at 5:30 p.m. in Stamford.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • During its first quarter earnings call, Walmart executives said tariffs will cause price increases on items including bananas, avocados, coffee, and roses, with markups set to start by the end of the month—walmart plans to adjust inventory and supplier sourcing to help absorb rising costs. Local shoppers have expressed concerns, noting that the price hikes could affect everyday low-price expectations.  News 12 Connecticut

CULTURE NEWS

  • On May 6, the Norwalk Arts and Culture Commission approved using fifth grader Jagger's crayon drawing for the traffic box at Rowayton Elementary School—commission members also reviewed three logo designs for the Norwalk Arts and Cultural District and voted to have designer Ash Nichols refine two options.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • RSPA students will perform Fiddler on the Roof Jr. at West Rocks Middle School with shows on Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 18 at 3 p.m. The production (led by Joe Santaniello and Jessica Rae Folds) will explore themes of family and tradition from the classic musical.  Nancy On Norwalk

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Graduating seniors in Connecticut are facing slower job prospects due to federal hiring freezes and economic uncertainty—employers now plan to enroll the same number of grads as last year while many students shift to internships or further studies. Some seniors, like Isabel Schumacher and Alexa Molina, have adjusted their plans by accepting offers in related fields or pursuing advanced degrees as they navigate the tough market.  Connecticut Public

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Parents, child care providers and educators gathered on May 14 at Norwalk Green—joining demonstrations in 12 Connecticut cities to demand affordable child care and fair wages.   • The Wolfpit Players at Wolfpit Elementary School will perform their fifth annual spring musical, The Lion King KIDS, this weekend with over 120 student performers in a 35-minute adaptation of the Disney film — the only full-scale musical production offered by a Norwalk elementary school that involves every grade from kindergarten to fifth. The show, which sold out nearly every ticket, strengthens the school’s arts curriculum and offers students hands-on experience in acting, design, and music.  Nancy On Norwalk

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials reported that chicken bacon ranch wraps sold at Big Y and Price Chopper in Connecticut may have contained listeria. The wraps, produced May 2 with a sell-by date of May 7, are no longer on shelves and no illnesses have been reported — consumers should contact a health care professional if they develop flu-like symptoms.  The Hour
