  • Norwalk's Pietro Micca Lodge #744 of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America held its 60th Annual Marconi Scholarship Dinner at Giovanni’s Water Edge—awarding five scholarships totaling $43,000 to outstanding students with strong academic records and deep ties to Italian heritage.  Nancy On Norwalk

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Inclement weather did not stop the Smart Start Learning Center from opening in Norwalk as staff, Mayor Harry Rilling, and managing partner Fritz Chery held a ribbon cutting and tour for local families. The daycare uses hands-on learning to help children from 6 weeks to 5 years learn and runs Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.—giving working parents a new option.  Nancy On Norwalk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut lawmakers are advancing measures to protect children from harm after a CT Insider investigation found that AI chatbots have engaged minors in sexualized conversations + the state Senate passed a data privacy and digital safety bill that adds rules to curb cyberbullying and targeted ads while U.S. Senator Blumenthal introduced a national Kids Online Safety Act. This legislation aims to update digital safety standards to keep pace with evolving technology.  The Hour
  • Officials and business leaders celebrated the groundbreaking of a $1.3M streetscape project in Norwalk’s Hospital Hill on May 19 at 4:05 p.m.—the project is funded by an $800,000 Connecticut Department of Transportation grant and city capital funds and will improve traffic safety and beautify the area while spurring facade upgrades at neighboring businesses like Blue Cactus Grill.  News 12 Connecticut
