- ➤ The Waypointe will host its First Annual Summer Festival in Norwalk on Saturday, June 7 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Waypointe Retail Courtyard at 515 West Ave, featuring live music, local food tastings, and carnival games for families — the festival is the first in a series of events aiming to support local businesses and celebrate community spirit. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Five Connecticut residents from Danbury, Hartford, and New Canaan were indicted by a federal grand jury in New Haven for a scheme that fraudulently obtained over $2.2 million from small business loan programs starting around 2022 (the fraud involved using stolen identities and fake business records in applications, including ones for a Norwalk-based trucking company and a music firm). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The new Save the Sound report shows that Connecticut’s 73 Long Island Sound beaches were graded on water quality for safe swimming—13 earned an A+ while some Fairfield County beaches received a low D-. Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk earned a high grade along with three other local beaches, and the report used state data and rainfall records to explain the scores. The Hour
- ➤ Save the Sound rated 13 Connecticut beaches A+ for water quality based on low levels of Enterococci (a type of bacteria) with Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk scoring highly; four Madison beaches earned perfect scores from weekly water tests (state criteria for safe swimming). The Hour
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 20, 2024, Norwalk officials announced that the city received over $21.5 million in state grants to upgrade HVAC systems and improve air quality in six public schools (the upgrades are part of a $36 million project that includes a $14.36 million city appropriation). City of Norwalk
- ➤ State Rep. Tracy Marra endorsed Vinny Scicchitano for Norwalk mayor, praising him as a lifelong local and small business owner who always puts his community first. Scicchitano—an East Norwalk auto repair shop owner—announced his campaign earlier this year and will promote fiscal responsibility and trust in City Hall. Nancy On Norwalk
- ➤ At a public hearing on Tuesday, nearly 10 residents including two mayoral candidates urged the Norwalk Charter Revision Commission to adopt reforms for better representation, transparency and fiscal accountability in city government. The commission will review recommendations to increase council authority over the budget (covering issues like minority party representation and term limits) during its next meeting on May 27. The Sunset Stroll will be held at The Point at Norwalk Cove. We will have passed around appetizers, entrees, and a signature drink. We will have elected officials and program participants as speakers. We will also have scavenger hunt for the guests to learn about all of our amazing programs. There will be a silent choice auction and a live auction with amazing items.
