CT State Community College Norwalk held its graduation ceremony on May 21 at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport and nearly 600 students received their credentials.

Two student speakers, including Navy veteran and father Franck Valdez, addressed the crowd—Valdez earned a respiratory care certificate and will continue his studies at Southern Connecticut State University.

Norwalk high school seniors from Brien McMahon and Norwalk received full scholarships from Livingstone College, a historically Black college in North Carolina, after selection based on GPAs between 3.7 and 4.0.

Livingstone College President Dr. Anthony J. Davis said the regional tour emphasizes giving back—making college more accessible to students.

John J. Shepard from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station said Asian tiger mosquito eggs will hatch by early summer and the invasive species will gradually spread along coastal areas including Norwalk this summer—residents are urged to use protective measures.

The mosquito, which may carry diseases like Dengue, is expected to increase from mid-June through early fall—weather conditions will determine its spread.
