Norwalk's public schools get state funding by an ECS formula that assigns each student a fixed base amount and adds weights for low-income and multilingual students—though the city does not reach the threshold for extra aid in concentrated poverty.

Since 2019, funding has been rising and full ECS aid will arrive by FY2026 while advocates say the system still needs reform.

The state Senate passed a bill Tuesday that expands automated speed cameras and increases penalties for drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians—offenders now face a $750 fine and new rules require drivers to park further from crosswalks and motorcycle riders to wear helmets.
