BUSINESS NEWS

  • Entrepreneur Alexa Curtis launched custom 203 and 860 hats on TikTok Shop to connect with Connecticut locals and build community through online and in-person events. She said the platform’s live shopping feature helps her reach followers quickly and engage residents in Norwalk — strengthening her ties to the state.  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Forty third graders and 24 upper-grade students from Wolfpit Elementary School in Norwalk performed at Carnegie Hall on May 21 through the Link Up program, which let them move from early recorder practice to a full orchestral performance that blended classical music with rock elements—delivering a memorable field trip experience.  The Hour
  • Norwalk Public Schools will cut more than 80 teacher positions for next school year due to a $21.8 million budget shortfall — losses include approximately 70.24 FTE in elementary, 21.82 FTE in middle, 32.31 FTE in high schools and 20.8 FTE in the central office, and local unions say the layoffs were communicated in an abrupt and disrespectful way. Superintendent Estrella said she is working with city officials to secure additional funds and preserve essential programs as the final budget is scheduled for a vote on June 3 at 7 p.m.  Nancy On Norwalk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials, community leaders, and workforce trainees launched Norwalk’s Green Workforce Training Program Thursday at Cranbury Park—this initiative, a partnership with Keep America Beautiful and Open Doors funded by a USDA Forest Service grant administered by CT DEEP, will offer 100 hours of paid landscaping and urban forestry training to residents facing employment barriers. Trainees will plant and care for up to 200 native trees over the next two years in areas that need more green space.  Nancy On Norwalk

  • Ludlowe High School’s baseball team won its first FCIAC championship since 2010 when it beat Norwalk (4 to 2) on May 30, taking advantage of early errors and strong pitching from Luke Stasko and Mason Holcomb.  The Hour
  • The Norwalk Zoomers Black softball team won the 10U division championship at the Danbury PAL Memorial Day Madness Tournament on Sunday — after losing their opening game on Saturday they rallied with four straight wins and a walk-off run-rule finish against the Hudson Valley Voodoo Dolls, scoring 42 runs in three games.  Nancy On Norwalk
