- ➤ The First Taxing District is launching its free summer concert series on Norwalk Green at Park Street and East Avenue with a Flag Day concert by the Fairfield Counts Orchestra on Sunday, June 8 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. + residents are invited to bring lawn chairs to enjoy music as additional concerts are scheduled for June 19, July 12, August 2 and September 13 + call 203-847-7387 ext. 7264 for more details. - ➤ Norwalk police arrested 34-year-old Melvin Colon on Monday after seizing a ghost gun, an assault pistol, two high-capacity magazines, suspected cocaine and over $20,000 from his Wilson Avenue apartment—officers said the investigation began in January following community complaints of narcotics sales—and set his bail at $500,000. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hundreds of parents, teachers and community members gathered Tuesday night at Norwalk City Hall and then moved to the concert hall auditorium to protest potential budget cuts that may cut more than 80 teaching jobs, mostly at elementary schools, and reduce music and arts programs—city officials are considering additional state funds and possible central office staff cuts. - ➤ The state House approved a $55.8 billion two-year budget plan yesterday that invests in child care, K-12 education and tax relief for working families. The plan revises health care provider payments and hospital taxes to secure federal Medicaid funds—while the Senate is set to debate it. Connecticut Public
- ➤ The Town Clerk’s Office announced yesterday that 2025 dog licenses are available for current owners and new registrations of dogs over six months old, and all must be renewed to meet state law requirements. Renewal notices will be sent by mail or email and owners can renew online, by mail or in person at City Hall — 125 East Avenue, with licenses valid from July 1 until June 30 and unlicensed dogs subject to a $75 fine. - ➤ Connecticut lawmakers approved a bill Tuesday evening that lowers electric rates by reducing the Public Benefits Charge and shifting costs to state borrowing. Residential customers will save about $10 monthly while businesses may see bigger savings in the future — Gov. Ned Lamont and legislators plan further moves to stabilize energy costs. - ➤ State lawmakers approved a plan to lower electric bills by trimming the Public Benefits Charge, a measure that could cut monthly bills by about $15. Gov. Ned Lamont said the bill, which removes $800 million over three years and shifts funding for hardship programs and renewable energy to long-term borrowing, will be taken up by the House today—aiming to hold down rates over time. The Sunset Stroll will be held at The Point at Norwalk Cove. We will have passed around appetizers, entrees, and a signature drink.
