- ➤ After two years of renovations, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum reopened yesterday with new archival spaces, an educational center, and refreshed gift shop and rotunda — museum officials said the updates provided heat and electricity on all floors with support from local and state leaders. - ➤ A study from the Urban Institute released June 5 found that closing housing, income and education gaps for Black and Latino families in Fairfield County could add over $15 billion in revenue and produce 33,000 new homeowners—local leaders may use the report to adjust housing and parking rules to boost affordable development. - ➤ Norwalk Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella said today that she is working with city and state officials to address the district’s budget crisis and dismissed rumors about declined music funding, a 12% raise, and a personal film crew—she added that 21 central office positions were cut as principals now have the authority to make local staffing decisions. - ➤ State lawmakers approved $6.6 billion in capital projects for the upcoming two-year budget starting July 1—this package funds school construction, energy savings, and security for houses of worship while a review will decide the fate of a $100 million soccer stadium project in Bridgeport. - ➤ On June 5, the City of Norwalk announced changes to garbage and recycling collection eligibility that will take effect July 1—residential properties on public roads connected to the city sewer with four or fewer dwelling units will receive curbside collection, while larger properties must take their waste to the city transfer station or hire a private hauler. Eligible households have already received a new 65-gallon waste cart and an information pamphlet to help them understand the changes. City of Norwalk
- ➤ The state legislature approved an extra $100M to repair homes with crumbling foundations caused by iron sulfide, and the funding will fix between 3500 and 3700 homes while creating construction jobs — the program aims to end the crisis by fiscal year 2030. The Hour
