  • Ellen Wink, a former Norwalk official, is on trial for allegedly shooting and killing her tenant Kurt Lametta on January 20+ her lawyer claims self-defense while prosecutors stress a long history of conflict as a secret video from the victim’s phone is shown+ in court.  The Hour

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut strawberry fields have been hit hard by floods, pollution from Canadian wildfires and new fungal diseases, causing a record-small crop as many fields show residual rot and reduced production. Farmers warn pick-your-own enthusiasts to act fast—picking season started late May and will end sooner than usual.  Connecticut Public

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut lawmakers passed House Resolution 10 recognizing the culture and heritage of Taíno descendants to honor their overlooked contributions and preserve their traditions. A public ceremony is planned in Waterbury in 2025—this move marks a new step in state efforts to celebrate Caribbean heritage.  The Hour
  • Effective July 1, Norwalk will launch a new garbage collection system that limits service to eligible residential properties—those receiving a free 65-gallon black bin with a red lid—while commercial and multi-unit properties must use private haulers or drop off waste at the transfer station at 21 Crescent Street. The city has mailed letters and posted details online, and recycling will continue with blue bins as food composting programs are expanded.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Gov. Ned Lamont said on June 6 he had concerns over a broad housing bill that would require towns to create affordable housing plans and change zoning rules. GOP leaders urged him to veto the bill — arguing it may undermine local control.  Connecticut Public

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Connecticut Department of Public Health is investigating 69 cases where nurses may have used fraudulent degrees in a federal probe into fake nursing programs. The review follows 58 prior actions and will lead to a suspension of licenses pending hearings — some nurses may have knowingly cut corners while others were defrauded.  The Hour
