COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Residents at a Highbridge apartment building have had to use the stairs for two weeks because the elevator is out. Elderly tenant Flo Smith, 84, now runs the errands for her household—while other tenants say the extra steps are making everyday tasks very difficult. News 12 Connecticut
- ➤ On June 18th, the Norwalk Community Services Committee approved over $1.4 million in funding that let Mayor Harry Rilling finalize contracts to expand youth services, senior support and nonprofit mentoring initiatives (including a $35,000 state grant for teen mentoring and $95,520 for victim support). The committee also approved a $200,000 contract for mental health services for new immigrant families and increased grants for the Norwalk Senior Center and early education (with a $400,000 funding boost and a $500,000 annual grant), strengthening community programs for residents. - ➤ Police raided a Westport Avenue smoke shop today and arrested a 27-year-old Mississippi man after finding marijuana — nitrous oxide. The Hour
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ After the National Endowment for the Arts withdrew $10,000 for INTEMPO’s Cultural Crossover Concert in April at Norwalk City Hall, the community raised $10,500 from 46 donors+ helping surpass the lost funding. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ More than 50 boats—including a 43-foot yacht near Norwalk and jet skis in Long Island Sound—were listed as abandoned by DEEP as of mid-June. Officials said vessels are classified as abandoned when left unattended for over 24 hours and may be claimed if they remain on the property for about 45 days. The Hour

- ➤ Starting July 1, dozens of new laws in Connecticut will boost funding for special education and child care—along with changes to public health services, election audits, environmental improvements, and e-book contracts for libraries. - ➤ Town officials may soon debate an 8-30g proposal that ROAN Ventures presented at a Planning and Zoning meeting — the plan would build three eight-story buildings on the Hamlet site with over 500 housing units, 30% affordable and 70% market condos and rentals, and involves the purchase of two Norwalk Islands. - ➤ The Connecticut High School Coaches Association Girls Lacrosse All-State Awards honored Darien junior Anna Von Kennel as Player of the Year while the Blue Wave was named Team of the Year for the 2025 season — the awards were presented on June 25. The Hour
- ➤ UConn's Liam McNeeley, the Big East Freshman of the Year, is expected to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft—held yesterday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn—while the second round airs today at 8 p.m. on ESPN. The Hour
