Environmental advocates say that butterfly bushes attract adult butterflies but fail to provide the plants needed for caterpillars, and they can easily self-seed, urging local gardeners to either cut off wilting blooms or replace them with native alternatives—such as milkweed, asters and sunflowers—to support wildlife.

Connecticut officials announced a $25,000 private donation to launch the Safe Harbor Fund to help patients from states where access to certain health care is limited.

Applications for the fund will be available July 1 via the treasurer’s office website (more private donations may follow) as leaders work to support care access.

Connecticut Comptroller Sean Scanlon joined fiscal officials from four states on Thursday to warn that federal health care cuts may increase medical debt and limit access to care for local residents.

His team is backing initiatives such as a public pharmacy partnership and a new Connecticut Option to maintain coverage.
