COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Riverbrook Regional YMCA received a $1.5 million grant from ASML that will allow every first grader in Norwalk to receive free swim lessons over the next three years. The funding will also expand programs for people with disabilities — and repair the splash pad damaged by flooding.  News 12 Connecticut
  • Connecticut Foodshare lost $1 million from the LFPA program and about $1.7 million from TEFAP cuts, leaving the largest state food bank struggling to meet rising demand—President Jason Jakubowski warned that the proposed Big Beautiful Bill may further reduce food supplies and urged residents to donate and volunteer.  Connecticut Public

  • Norwalk police closed Sunset Hill Avenue just before 2 p.m. today after a fire erupted in a building—residents are urged to avoid the area.  The Hour

CRIME NEWS

  • Norwalk police issued more than 1,000 tickets and made 13 arrests this month as part of the Summer Slowdown Days initiative—targeting speeding, aggressive driving, cellphone use, failure to obey traffic signs, and improper mufflers based on resident complaints, crash data, and officer experience.  The Hour

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Northeast said that higher summer driving demand — along with the conflict in the Middle East — is pushing up gas prices in Connecticut; local drivers in Norwalk have seen an 8-cent rise and remain cautious about future increases.  News 12 Connecticut

EDUCATION NEWS

  • College juniors Kabir Kalia and Samantha Przybisiki—graduates of Brien McMahon—turned their IB project into the 'We Are Enough' program that teaches second and third graders about diversity at Marvin Elementary and other local schools. Their 30‑minute session on May 15 has led to proposals from Norwalk, Stamford and Fairfield schools for next year.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • Keystone House held its 2nd Annual Field Day in Norwalk on June 27; the nonprofit has provided residential and psychosocial services for adults with psychiatric disorders for over 50 years + the event brought individuals with mental health issues together to join group activities.  News 12 Connecticut

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Norwalk’s Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously approved upgrades to two housing developments that preserve historic buildings—at 204 Flax Hill Road, a historic mansion will be renovated and 21 new apartments built, while at Elmcrest Terrace, a historic home will be maintained and 10 dwelling units added; construction will begin before year-end and finish next year.  The Hour
