Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont said the EPA proposal—aimed at rescinding the 2009 Endangerment Finding and eliminating limits on vehicle emissions—could worsen air quality and put public health at risk.

The proposal is still under review with a public comment period ending Sept. 21 and may undermine state efforts to curb pollution.

On Tuesday, the Charter Revision Commission heard comments from Norwalk school leaders and council members on 21 proposed charter changes that include a faster school budget timeline, a change in council size, and a review of council compensation.

The commission will meet again Wednesday, and final decisions are expected at the Aug. 5 meeting before the proposals appear on the Nov. 4 ballot — a move that may alter local government rules.

The MTA Board approved a 10% fare increase on Metro-North trips that start or end at a Connecticut station after public hearings.

The fares will jump by 5% in September and by another 5% in July - a move meant to prevent service cuts amid an $11 million shortfall in the state budget.

Norwalk taxpayers have until Friday, Aug 1 to pay their tax bills using in-person, online, phone, or mailed payments without incurring interest penalties; the bills cover real estate, motor vehicle, business personal property, and sewer use charges.

Payments made after Aug 1 will incur a 3% interest charge through Aug 31—taxpayers should bring their current tax bill when paying in person or at bank branches.
