  • Stew Leonard Jr., president and CEO of Norwalk-based Stew Leonard's, performed the Heimlich maneuver on a choking person during a guest segment at a New York City news station—his quick action and training from Stewie the Duck Swim School prevented a tragedy.  The Hour

CRIME NEWS

  • State regulators suspended the vape permit for R&R Smoke Shop on 213 Main Street — police uncovered hundreds of illegal cannabis products during undercover inspections from December through July that led to arrests and a search warrant.  The Hour

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The State Bond Commission voted on Friday to borrow $155 million to cut electric bills by $5–10 per month starting next month, and Gov. Lamont said the relief is only a beginning with deeper savings taking years as PURA will review the changes on August 13.  News 12 Connecticut

EDUCATION NEWS

  • 18-year-old Charlie Kane from Stratford earned a full Evans Scholarship after working as a caddie at Country Club of Fairfield for four years—he will attend the University of Delaware later this month to study engineering.  News 12 Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut offers 67 specialty license plates that honor topics from war veterans to pizza and Ferraris — groups must show tax-exempt status and collect 400 applications to qualify, and some plates may generate revenue if approved by the legislature.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials warn that splash pads in Connecticut can spread waterborne germs that cause stomach pain and skin problems, with studies linking them to outbreaks since 1997—operators are now required by law to post signs about recirculated water risks and parents are advised to have children rinse off before play.  The Hour
