CULTURE NEWS

  • Veteran comedy star Whitney Cummings, co-creator of 2 Broke Girls, will perform two shows at the Ridgefield Playhouse on Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. as part of her Big Baby Tour that highlights her life as a single mom — after her Connecticut stop she will perform in Huntington before heading overseas.  The Hour
  • On August 5th, Norwalk launched a survey to gather input from residents, artists, business owners, and visitors on the city’s first comprehensive Arts — Cultural Plan that will guide public art, investment, and programming for the next decade. The survey is available in English and Spanish and will remain open until September 5th.  City of Norwalk
  • Disney on Ice’s Jump In! will perform at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport from Nov. 20—23 while presale tickets are available and families can add a pre-show Character Experience to meet Moana and Mickey Mouse. The show features new characters from Inside Out 2 and Moana 2 along with classic favorites.  The Hour

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report indicates that Connecticut renters must earn over $73,000 a year to comfortably afford a two-bedroom apartment at a fair market rent of about $1,800. The report shows that rental costs have risen by $2,000 compared to last year—making areas like Norwalk and Stamford some of the most strained housing markets, and it calls for stronger renter support measures.  Connecticut Public

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut Rep. Joe Courtney proposed a $1 billion amendment to fill funding gaps in the White House budget request so that two Virginia-class submarines can be built next fiscal year — his plan aims to support Groton’s Electric Boat and local suppliers facing rising costs.  Connecticut Public
  • City transportation officials announced that a block of Burnell Boulevard in Norwalk will change to two-way traffic starting Monday as part of a new Transit District Plan that repositions local bus stops—an update supported by community meetings and a mural, which already signaled local support.  News 12 Connecticut

HEALTH NEWS

  • CDC data shows Connecticut ranked first in the nation with 98.3% of kindergartners vaccinated for measles for the 2024-25 school year — a rate that helped keep the state measles-free as of July 29. Public health officials noted the high rate exceeds the 95% needed for herd immunity while national rates continue to fall.  Connecticut Public
