Good morning, Norwalk. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 23rd of August.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a tense special meeting on Wednesday night, the Norwalk Common Council voted 9—6 to send three charter revision questions to the November 4 ballot, with proposals to rename the council, lower petition requirements, and boost council compensation. The council also rejected plans to expand at-large seats and adjust board representation while authorizing publication of the revised charter for public review.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • A federal appeals court upheld Connecticut’s assault weapons laws by affirming a lower court’s denial of a temporary injunction that would have blocked enforcement—state officials say the decision upholds restrictions designed to protect public safety.  The Hour

SPORTS NEWS

  • Brien McMahon high school football team is set to begin the 2025 season with new head coach Damien Vega—a McMahon alum who played for the Senators after taking over from longtime coach Jeff Quieroga. The team ended a 3-7 season in 2024 without a winning record since 2014 and will open on Sept. 11 at home against Southington while scheduling several conference matchups.  The Hour
  • At the Little League World Series, Fairfield National’s pitcher SJ Taxiltaridis threw 89 pitches in Wednesday’s game and will be ineligible to pitch in today’s U.S. Championship game because Little League rules allow only 85 pitches except to finish an at bat—this rule protects players’ arms by requiring rest days based on pitch counts. Fairfield National enters the matchup with a rested roster while Las Vegas faces restrictions with two key pitchers unavailable.  The Hour
  • Norwalk's 85-year-old Ralph DiMeglio recalled winning 11 straight games in the 1952 Little League World Series—he pitched, caught and hit the first grand slam in tournament history. He will cheer for Fairfield National as they face Nevada in the U.S. championship at 3:30 p.m. today.  News 12 Connecticut
