  • Interactive Brokers Group, based in Greenwich, joined the S&P 500 index on Aug 28 and replaced Walgreens, which is being taken private using an ampersand. This addition raised Connecticut’s total to 16 S&P companies and marks a milestone in the local financial sector.  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State education officials announced on August 28 that Connecticut students improved in English, math and science test scores and attendance during the 2024-25 school year but did not reach pre-pandemic levels—local district leaders from Norwalk credited programs like LEAP and high-dosage tutoring for the gains.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers met Wednesday to review a report showing nearly 3,700 incidents of children missing from care—a 42% increase largely among teenagers—and Commissioner Hill-Lilly, in her final testimony before retirement, urged enhanced tracking and services to address DCF’s gaps.  Connecticut Public

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials reported that West Nile Virus was found only in trapped mosquitoes in 34 Connecticut communities as of August 28 and that no human cases have been recorded. SPORTS NEWS

  • The Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame and Youth Foundation celebrated its 20th anniversary and has called Chelsea Piers home since 2019—bronze plaques now honor 126 county sports legends.
