  • Connecticut’s 4-H programs empower youth by offering diverse experiences in leadership, STEM, and community service while challenging the idea that the club is only for farming—local educators say the initiative now helps over 22,000 members and more than 2,700 adult volunteers gain vital skills. The program continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of young people and prepare them for life after 4-H.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials in Connecticut reported a little more than 400 COVID-19 cases last week and warned that the number of infections could rise as schools resume and colder weather arrives—experts emphasized updated FDA vaccine guidelines now recommend shots for seniors and high-risk groups, while insurance coverage remains uncertain. Health experts advised those at risk to consult health care providers as the state prepares for the respiratory illness season.  The Hour

  • Norwalk High School sophomore Gavin Chakar, ranked the best right-handed pitcher in New England and among the top 10 nationally, will train in El Paso then travel to Juarez to represent Team USA at the Pan American Games starting Sept. 13—he is excited to compete internationally.  News 12 Connecticut
