EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Ned Lamont announced on September 4th that a new state fund will open 20 preschool classes in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford, Derby, and Watertown to serve 500 children. Starting in July 2027, families making under $100,000 a year will get free child care while those earning over $100,000 will pay a reduced fee—marking the largest expansion of early childhood programs in state history. - ➤ Norwalk Fire Station 4 at 180 Westport Avenue received $311,200 plus $31,120 in design contingency funding for a major redesign by Bridgeport-based Antinozzi Associates on September 3 — city officials plan to improve emergency services by relocating a ladder truck for better coverage. The design will take about six to seven months and the project will go to bid in spring with construction starting before winter. The Hour
- ➤ State Rep. Kadeem Roberts endorsed Darlene Young for Norwalk mayor, citing a long personal connection and her steadfast community service. Two council members and local leaders also backed her over 30 years of public service — showing broad support for her campaign. Nancy On Norwalk
- ➤ Connecticut and Rhode Island are suing to restart the nearly complete Revolution Wind project — which could power 350,000 homes and support 2,500 jobs — after a stop-work order halted construction in late August. - ➤ Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling announced that Moody’s and S&P Global reaffirmed the city’s AAA bond rating with a stable outlook after a $53 million bond sale on September 4 that received 15 bids and a winning rate of 3.69% from Roosevelt-Cross—Inc, reflecting strong fiscal management.
