  • Norwalk Boat Show will run from Sept. 18 to 21 at Cove Marina on the Long Island Sound with daily hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 18-20 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 21 — tickets cost $20 for adults while children under 13 enter free with a paying adult.  The Hour
  • On the next episode of Community Ties, the owner of Greer Southern Table will discuss running his business and the revitalization of Norwalk's Wall Street neighborhood—he will share what returning home means for local entrepreneurship and community spirit.  Nancy On Norwalk

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers at Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk found that horseshoe crab numbers in Long Island Sound have dropped by 2 to 9 percent in bays and harbors — a severe decline that calls for more protection for these ancient creatures. Connecticut’s 2023 ban on harvesting may help, but scientists warn that additional measures will be needed to keep the species from further loss.  The Hour
  • The Third Taxing District donated $5,000 to the Norwalk Tree Alliance to support planting 53,000 trees in the city and improving air, water, and energy conditions—presented to president Jeff Scherr by district representatives Kevin Barber, Ron Scofield, and Erica Joyce. The contribution will help close Norwalk’s tree gap as the nonprofit works to cool neighborhoods and boost local quality of life.  Nancy On Norwalk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut Medicaid workers, including 42-year-old Christina Wolney who works at a college bookshop and manages serious health issues, will face new federal work requirements starting in January that mandate 80 work hours per month and biannual documentation. The state comptroller warned the changes might cause between 100,000 to 200,000 recipients to lose coverage — a prospect that has many workers fearing a return to hardship.  Connecticut Public

  • Norwalk Junior Soccer Association kicked off its fall season in celebration of its 50th anniversary and will see over 600 players take part in both recreation and travel programs—offering free financial help to families and inviting the community to share their soccer stories.
