COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Norwalk will host its annual Touch-a-Truck and Open House event on September 27 at the Public Works Operations Center from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.—families can explore city vehicles, join wastewater treatment plant tours, and see demonstrations while donating nonperishable foods to support Person to Person.  City of Norwalk

CULTURE NEWS

  • Norwalk residents are invited to vote on the final design for a new mural covering the fencing along Ely Avenue—two proposals are under review for a 450-foot artwork that will brighten the corridor, and voting is available online until Sept. 22.  Nancy On Norwalk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Marissa Gillett stepped down as PURA chair on Friday morning with her resignation effective October 10, saying the stress from lawsuits and media fights made it too hard for her and her family to keep up with her work. Gov. Lamont praised her efforts to lower rates and noted that her departure comes amid partisan disputes over board roles—new nominees are expected soon.  The Hour
  • State officials are in talks for UConn Health to purchase three struggling hospitals—Waterbury Hospital, Bristol Hospital, and Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam—for about $400 million, with local leaders saying the plan could boost health care access.   • City and Norwalk Public Schools’ Annual Joint Budget Public Hearing takes place Wednesday, Sept 24 at 6:00 p.m. at Norwalk City Hall Common Council Chamber + online via Zoom to collect community input on plans for operating and capital budgets for fiscal year 2026 to 2027. Officials and community members will use the hearing to share ideas early in the planning process.  City of Norwalk
  • Eric Rains, chairman of the Norwalk Parking Authority, explained in a letter that his agency manages over 4,000 parking spaces and reinvests parking revenue into local infrastructure—without burdening residents with taxes. HEALTH NEWS

  • UConn Health announced a plan to expand its public hospital network from Farmington by bidding on Waterbury Hospital—caught in bankruptcy—and discussing deals with Bristol and Day Kimball hospitals to boost patient access statewide. The move, expected to cost up to $500 million through bond debt, aims to improve competitiveness and care in Connecticut.  The Hour
  • Oula provided by Stamford Health will open its new midwifery clinic in Norwalk on Sept 29 to offer integrated maternity care from preconception through postpartum — the service will include midwives, OB-GYNs and care navigators with plans for a second clinic in 2026.  News 12 Connecticut

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn women's basketball released its 2025-26 schedule; the season starts on Nov. 4 in Germany against Louisville and features 15 home games. The schedule also includes an Oct. 13 exhibition and a Big East opener at Xavier on Nov. 30 + key matchups with rivals.  The Hour
  • Three local high school teams won their home openers Friday night: the Lancers improved to 2—0 with a 28—7 win over Joel Barlow, Jonathan Law’s team edged Xavier 28—27 with four touchdowns from Hunter Kendzierski, and Fairfield Prep beat Sheehan 45—0 at Rafferty Stadium after Vinny Lombardo’s 75-yard touchdown run.
