A barge stuck on the Norwalk River since Saturday was freed Wednesday after workers removed 1,600 tons of gravel—allowing a tugboat to pull it clear of its lodged position.
Harbormaster Bruce Lovallo said the six-and-a-half-hour effort restored the waterway so the Norwalk Boat Club can resume boating this weekend.

At the Norwalk Boat Show last week, vendors Flux Marine, Mercury Avator and EPropulsion showcased electric outboard motors that offer cleaner water and quieter operation—features that help buyers overcome range anxiety.
Alex Yuknat of EPropulsion said interest is rising as boaters look for low-maintenance solutions.
