CULTURE NEWS

  • In September, Connecticut hosted many celebrity events as Adam Sandler earned a Walk of Fame star at Mohegan Sun during sold-out shows and Foo Fighters played their first event at Toad’s Place, while Ryan Reynolds led a documentary screening with David Letterman in Ridgefield—Sarah Jessica Parker, Jane Fonda and James Van Der Beek were also seen at local events.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norwalk Fire Chief Gino Gatto retired this week after more than 40 years of service, including eight years leading the fire department—city officials appointed Edward McCabe, a 31-year veteran, as the new chief to continue its strong leadership.  The Hour
  • Connecticut home and business owners can now use a new climate risk mapping tool developed by the state to assess threats—like flooding, wind, fire, air quality, and extreme heat—from their property addresses. The tool uses past data and FEMA flood maps to estimate risks and damage costs and was introduced after severe flooding in the Naugatuck Valley last year.  Connecticut Public
  • City officials and planners presented preliminary plans for a roundabout at the Richards Avenue & West Cedar intersection during a public meeting held Sept. 30, which will cost about $3 million and aim to reduce vehicle and pedestrian conflicts; community members raised concerns that will be addressed at a follow-up meeting in fall as construction is set to start summer 2027.  Nancy On Norwalk

HEALTH NEWS

  • Community health centers in Connecticut lost Medicare reimbursements for most virtual telehealth visits on September 30 due to a federal funding gap — forcing patients to have care in person or at approved clinics. Local providers and Sen. Blumenthal are now working to expand telehealth access for mental health and other services — which may ease service disruptions soon.  Connecticut Public

  • UConn women's basketball announced its 2025-26 schedule—finalizing tip times and TV designations except for the opener on Nov. 4 in Germany and the finale on March 1—and detailed that 24 regular-season games will be on national TV with additional streaming on Peacock.  The Hour
  • Seven Connecticut girls lacrosse players were named to the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Women Power 100 Freshman Rankings — with two ranking in the top four and four heading to ACC teams; New Canaan’s Ceci Patterson, an All-State goalie, leads at No. 3.  The Hour
  • A Connecticut high school sports roundup reported that Nonnewaug beat Shepaug 2-1 in a key BL boys soccer match on October 2—Xavier also won 8-0 over East Haven as state scores in girls soccer, volleyball and golf were recorded.  The Hour
