  • Norwalk’s annual Halloween Nightfair returns to Washington Street on Saturday, October 25th from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The event will feature pumpkin painting, face painting, games, a trick-or-treat trail, carnival rides, a costume contest at 6:30 p.m., a new beer garden, and live music.  City of Norwalk

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pratt & Whitney saw its third quarter sales rise 16% to about $8.4 billion and its operating profit jump 35% to $751 million—growth driven by new military and commercial orders including about $3 billion in F135 engine contracts. The company ended a machinists’ strike by approving a new four-year deal that keeps production running in Connecticut—supporting its ability to meet future delivery targets.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On October 21, Connecticut lawmakers stood firm in a federal shutdown by saying they would not reopen the government until health care cuts were renegotiated, while a Norwalk elder care facility was under scrutiny after an 85-year-old man died and youth mental health centers worried about losing funding. Governor Lamont announced four interim PURA nominations to help lower high utility costs and the Big East basketball season began with a media day at Madison Square Garden — the weather that day was mostly sunny before showers came at night.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • A sleep researcher from the Yale School of Medicine advises residents to adjust their wake-up times in 15 minute increments, use a routine with CALFS (caffeine, activity, light, food, and social interaction) and get sunlight to ease the shift as clocks fall back one hour on Nov. 2 at 2 a.m. She warns that this approach will help reduce sleep disruption.  The Hour
  • John Olmo—54-year-old tax preparer from Bridgeport who has had 18 surgeries and now has two pacemakers—is worried his ConnectiCare plan will cost 12% to 20% more when federal tax credits end after Jan. 1. Gov. Ned Lamont said Tuesday he is looking at ways to help Connecticut residents who will be affected by these changes.  News 12 Connecticut

  • At Big East Media Day (Oct 21 at Madison Square Garden), UConn women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma and players Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong discussed their plans for the season, with Auriemma calling last year’s champions one of the best and stressing that the team will work hard in practice for a healthy season (Strong was named Big East Preseason Player of the Year).  The Hour

    The Norwalk Conservatory of the Arts proudly presents the explosive Broadway musical Footloose, opening Thursday night, Nov. 13 at 8 PM at The Klein Memorial Auditorium in Bridgeport and runs through Sunday, Nov. 16th.
