COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Norwalk Community College held a resource fair yesterday to connect unhoused and food insecure students with 10 local service providers as part of Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week—student organizer Sophie Nilsen drew on her past experience to ease stigma. Local partners such as Open Doors and the Norwalk Health Department offered help with food, shelter and jobs—ensuring that students could access the support they need.  Connecticut Public

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Edgewell Personal Care announced it will close its Milford Schick factory by 2027 without revealing where production will move—local and state officials are preparing plans to help nearly 300 workers affected by the shutdown.  The Hour
  • SkyBox Trading Cards and Collectibles, a family-owned store from Norwalk, has opened its second location in Stamford at Chelsea Piers—1 Blachley Road with hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The new store offers trading cards for major sports and popular games like Pokemon and Magic the Gathering.  The Hour

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Eversource said Monday that its standard service electric rates will increase by 13% in the first six months of next year — adding about $10 per month for the average residential customer as the supply cost rises from 11.19 to 12.64 cents per kilowatt hour. The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority will soon certify the new rates while customers can shop for competitive options on EnergizeCT.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Norwalk’s wastewater plant processed 12.2 million gallons per day and remains well under its permitted capacity of 18 million gallons as flows have decreased since earlier years. The WPCA completed several upgrades in 2023 and 2024 and will upgrade more infrastructure by December 2025—such as pipe lining and sewer replacements—to prepare for future growth.  Nancy On Norwalk

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction began immediately on a mixed‑use redevelopment at 24 Belden Avenue that will add 102 one‑bedroom apartments and retail spaces using state financing while renovations at 1 Leonard Street preserve affordable senior housing. Developer Jason Milligan said the project will support middle‑income residents who will benefit from easy access to local shops and parks.  The Hour

  • State officials and the Mohegan Tribe planned for the state and private investors to buy up to 30% of the Connecticut Sun— they also aimed to build a new practice facility in Hartford, but the WNBA’s concerns may block the deal.  The Hour
