COMMUNITY NEWS

  • From Dec. 14 through Jan. 4, local bird watchers can participate in 20 Christmas Bird Count events held across Connecticut; last year, observers recorded 163 species and over 300,000 birds (each event covers a 15-mile circle).  The Hour
  • Norwalk’s Northern Forest on Manresa Island will open in spring 2027 and transform a former coal ash dump into 28 acres of restored habitats including walking trails, meadows and outdoor classrooms. The project will feature designated Eco, Gather and Learn pockets and improved access along Longshore Avenue.  The Hour

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Foxwoods will close its California Pizza Kitchen on Jan. 4, 2026, to make room for a flagship Sally's Apizza featuring an open concept kitchen and Connecticut memorabilia. A special edition Sally's restaurant is set to open in Norwalk in the first quarter of 2026.  The Hour

CULTURE NEWS

  • Connecticut band The Moonrise Cartel earned the Rising Star: Connecticut award at the New England Music Awards in Black Rock. The accolade was given among 10 local artists and marks a notable boost for the band's presence in the local music scene.  The Hour

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Record-low temperatures are expected tonight as arctic air moves in — residents should insulate pipes, keep doors closed, and let faucets trickle to avoid freezing. Local officials and the Red Cross recommend keeping thermostats at 55° F to prevent burst pipes.  The Hour

FINANCE NEWS

  • Connecticut Lottery reported that no ticket won the $775 million Powerball jackpot in Wednesday night's drawing, causing the jackpot to grow to $820 million with a cash option of $383.5 million — three players earned million-dollar prizes by matching five white balls. The winning numbers were 1-14-20-46-51 with a Powerball of 26.  The Hour

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, Dec. 4, Mayor Rilling activated city warming centers in response to an arctic cold blast that will see temperatures between 10°F and 20°F until Tuesday, Dec. 9 at noon, offering shelter options for vulnerable residents at the Police Department Community Room & local libraries.  City of Norwalk

  • The CIAC girls basketball season begins next Friday with a new competitive structure that features a top-tier Division I of 16 teams and reshuffled lower divisions to give both mid-level and smaller schools a fair shot & boost state competition.  The Hour
