COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Norwalk Senior Center will end its transportation service on Dec. 31 due to rising insurance & maintenance costs, affecting around 40 daily riders. The center will work with Norwalk Transit District to guide members toward using the city bus system and Wheels 2U shuttle service.  News 12 Connecticut

  • At Monday night's CRAZIES awards at Foxwoods Resort Casino, Community Table in New Preston won Connecticut Restaurant of the Year — chef Ashley Flagg of The Laurel earned Chef of the Year, and Norwalk's Bar Bushido was named Restaurant Newcomer.  The Hour

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut Audubon Society reported that young ospreys left the nest averaging one bird per nest—the lowest number since records began 12 years ago. Volunteers documented starvation cases linked to fewer adult menhaden and a four-day heat wave in June, though 862 fledglings left overall.  Connecticut Public
  • Norwalk residents will experience the first phase of Manresa Wilds when the Northern Forest opens in spring 2027. This outdoor park features three themed zones for nature study, community gatherings, and learning (pending local and state approvals).  Nancy On Norwalk

HEALTH NEWS

  • Connecticut health officials warned that a CDC panel has changed hepatitis B vaccine recommendations, saying reduced early immunizations could affect children in coming years — Dr. Manisha Juthani noted that past gaps may lower public trust.  Connecticut Public
  • A state report finds that volunteer groups supporting older adults face staffing and budget challenges as they work to help local seniors age in place. State agencies & local nonprofits plan to collaborate further to address housing, transportation, and service issues.  The Hour

SPORTS NEWS

  • Connecticut boys and girls soccer players earned All-New England honors when the list was announced Dec. 9. The recognition includes athletes from local towns such as Stonington and Greenwich who now join the regional elite.  The Hour
  • UConn football named Jason Candle as its new head coach on December 8 at Rentschler Field. Candle (former Toledo coach with 10 years of experience) aims to build on the program’s 18-win record from the past two seasons to forge a clear vision for the Huskies’ future.  The Hour
