CULTURE NEWS

  • Mike Thut, a beloved local music photographer known for live concerts at venues like the Fairfield Theatre Company, died Saturday after battling cancer at age 69 — tributes poured in from friends and the music community, and his planned Celebration of Life event was halted.  The Hour

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Norwalk Public Schools plan a 6.5% spending increase for next school year to cover rising costs for salaries, special education, student transport and free meals — the Board of Education will vote on the proposal today before it moves to finance review.  The Hour

  • Connecticut skies will feature the Ursid meteor shower from Dec. 13 through Dec. 24, with five to 10 meteors per hour peaking around 1 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 22. Stargazers should find a dark rural spot to best view the event during the winter solstice.  The Hour
