CULTURE NEWS

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Norwalk Maritime Aquarium installed a new $1.6 million Combined Heating and Power system yesterday to lower energy use and carbon emissions as it works toward carbon neutrality by 2035. The system will cut 324 metric tons of carbon and save $200,000, with part of its funding from grants + donations.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • Starting Jan. 1, new fishing rules limit brook trout harvest to fish at least 9 inches and add two protected zones as state biologists work to save declining populations—warming rivers from climate change put wild trout at risk.  Connecticut Public
  • Gov. Lamont signed a law that will restrict neonicotinoid pesticide use on lawns, golf courses, and turfgrass statewide starting Oct. 1, 2027 while exempting agricultural seed treatments and ornamental shrubs. FINANCE NEWS

  • Connecticut Lottery officials reported a state winner received $100,000 on Monday’s Powerball drawing and 54,086 winning tickets were issued statewide. The jackpot is now estimated at $1.7 billion with a cash option of $781.3 million, and the next drawing will occur Wednesday night.  The Hour

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Ned Lamont announced on Thursday that Connecticut will use $8.5 million from its emergency relief fund + $1.9 million for Title X to cover lost Medicaid reimbursements for Planned Parenthood; the temporary funding will support the nonprofit until early July.  Connecticut Public

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Jere Quinn—now in his 48th season at St. Thomas More—said his 11 players are set to play college basketball in the next two years after the team was national runner-up last season.  The Hour
