Good morning, Norwalk. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 25th of March.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut lawmakers are studying ranked choice voting for party primaries after supporters urged the Government Administration and Elections Committee on Monday to try the plan—voters would rank candidates until one gains 50% of the votes. Gov. Lamont supports the measure while election officials say they need extra time to update voting procedures, with the committee set to act by next Wednesday.  News 12 Connecticut
  • Common Council member Darlene Young has filed to run for Norwalk mayor. She has worked in city roles such as Assistant City Clerk, Youth Services Program Manager, and DOJ Weed & Seed coordinator — showing her long service and support for charter revision, housing equity, and police oversight — as a competitive race begins.  Nancy On Norwalk
  • During the March 18th budget hearings, Norwalk officials set a rule that limits spending increases for all departments except education to between 2—2.5% and requires a 1% salary cut, a move that has raised concerns as key services face reduced inflation-adjusted funding. A public hearing on the 2025 budget will be held March 26 at 6:30 p.m.  Nancy On Norwalk

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn lost 77-75 to Florida in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, ending its bid for a third national championship and leaving coach Dan Hurley very emotional as he showed anger at calls, sadness over the loss, and pride in his team’s efforts—he said he will focus on a fresh start next season.  Connecticut Public
  • Researchers at Sacred Heart University found that younger people view sports gambling more favorably than those over 55. The study shows that 76% of respondents think gambling is more acceptable in states where it is legal — mobile access appears to drive younger support — even as many worry about match-fixing.  News 12 Connecticut
