EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Norwalk's public schools get state funding by an ECS formula that assigns each student a fixed base amount and adds weights for low-income and multilingual students—though the city does not reach the threshold for extra aid in concentrated poverty. - ➤ The state Senate passed a bill Tuesday that expands automated speed cameras and increases penalties for drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians—offenders now face a $750 fine and new rules require drivers to park further from crosswalks and motorcycle riders to wear helmets. - ➤ Connecticut lawmakers did not reach a full state budget as House Speaker Matt Ritter proposed a one-year plan — Gov. Ned Lamont said it was a mistake and threatened a veto — leaving the two sides about $200 million apart on second-year spending; they will try to resolve this stalemate before the deadline next week. - ➤ Norwalk is investing $30M to transform the Wall Street Corridor with improvements such as widened sidewalks, safer intersections, and outdoor dining; the project began in March and will finish by 2030.
